Rip Cut - Feather Boards & Hold Downs

Holding the wood tight to the fence and tight to the table is essential not only for safety and control, but for accurate clean cuts as well.

It used to be that most of these devices has to be home made although now you can find many inexpensive ones available in renovation centres.

Notice the sandpaper on the back end of the feather boards.  That serves two purposes: it lifts the fingers themselves off the table so they can spring freely, and it bites into the table or a jig with a single clamp and light pressure to hold it securely in place.
