Most of our common adhesives will not work well to put pottery or china together. We need something that will stick to a very porous surface, so none of the "Wonder Glues" will work. Also we do not want a noticeable line, so any coloured adhesives are out. Contact cement would work, but be very difficult to work with because we usually need to slide pieces into place. So when you really study the glue rack at the store, you will discover a specific "China Glue" -- and it is the best to use.
Now that the glue is settled, you need masking tape to clamp pieces together, and a sand pillow or a soft putty (like the kid's Silly Putty) to hold the thing in the odd position that will allow gravity to work for you.
The China Weld we used was from LePage, and is available everywhere.
