The trucker's hitch is one of the most useful of rope knots because it is quick, easy to set-up, easy to take down and allows you to sinch the load up tight. For those of you who missed the TV show, we tried to grab a few still shots to give you the step by step set-up for a trucker's hitch.
You do need a hook of some kind on the bottom that will allow the rope to slide. In the old days we could use door handles and bumpers, but that doesn't work anymore, so if there is nothing available, use a bungy cord hooked onto something under the car (not the break line please).
The essential first step
The real key to the whole knot is the first cross over of the left hand that reaches in front of the rope going up to grab the rope going down. Then as you pull your left hand up and the right down, let the rope slide to create the loop you need.
