Weather Restrictions: Plastic enamel anti-rust Paint

Connect to your favourite weather forecaster and look for the following conditions:

Category: Finishes     Product: Plastic enamel anti-rust Paint

Temperature Limitations: Use above +10 C (+50 F) and below + 29 C (+85 F)

Rain Limitations: No rain for 1 hour

Wind Limitations:  No wind if spray painting

Humidity Limitations: n/a

Continuous Conditions: 30 minutes

Comments: Because anti-rust paint is generally applied to metal, it is important that it not be too hot, the paint will just cook and not set.  So we need a warm day above +10 C (50 F) but less than +29 C (85 F).  It is also important to avoid direct sunlight and any dew.  Apply thin coats, it can be recoated as soon as the surface is hard dry to the touch.

Weather limitations on most renovation products can be located on the WEATHER tab above.

 APPLICATION / INSTALLATION DETAILS

Paints that are called anti-rust paints are generally paints that are designed to block rust -- or paints that can actually dissolve rust. Now they don't dissolve those flakes of metal that chip off, but they can absorb and incorporate into the wet paint that light rusting film that never seems to totally go away while cleaning off a railing or other outdoor metal work.

Many metal paints require special primers. One note of caution is that metal primers never stop rust - so get that top coat on quickly -- and yes, the red primer works better than the white but the white is easier to cover with a light coloured final coat.

If spraying metal paint, don't work in the wind and don't allow the metal to be so hot as to cook the paint before it cures.
